Q: Mail does not seem to be updating on my iPhone.

Mail function on my iPhone is not functioning correctly. Mail is coming in regularly on my iMac, but not my iPhone. When I go to the mail function, it stays in "checking for e mail" mode for a minute or so. Then it says "updated at 629am) well its now 3 9:30 and several more e mail have arrived on my desktop. Additional, many of the messages that are there take forever to load, with the "loading" icon spinning on the screen for a long time. I deleted several e mails on my iMac, but they do not show as deleted on iPhone.

I am running iOS 9.3.5 on an iPhone 6. All other programs on the phone seem to be functioning properly and I can access internet as well. Have tried turning phone on an off a couple of times as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The next thing I would try is a forced restart:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If that still doesn't help, try switching to Airplane mode, force restart again, and then switch Airplane mode off.

If those simple things still don't work (and you sure your device is set-up for your network properly), then the next step would probably be a restore from backup and (more drastically) restore as new.

Well the restarts did not work. Now I get a popup window that says "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed.". So I guess I will try a complete restore.

If you haven't tried removing the email account and adding it back again, I would suggest that before a restore.

Way less effort and may actually resolve the issue if it involves just the mail account.
