However, you say you are doing this with several hundred albums. Doing the drag method will simply place all the album tracks at the same level in on the drive so you may end up with a folder with several hundred tracks all mixed together. Depending upon how you automobile's player presents media tracks this may be messy. You may instead like to look at this Applescript:

Even then I would hesitate to apply this to several hundred albums at one time and do it in groups of 100 tracks.
Alternatively if you are trying to add a whole bunch of albums in a series you can go to the iTunes Media folder and select folders of items to copy to the drive.

Click and hold on a song, and then drag it to the USB drive icon either on your desktop if you have them shown there, or in Finder.
Your cursor will change into an iTunes file.
Or in Finder form either the iTunes media folder in the Music folder or wherever it is you have them stored if they are in a different folder.
