Why doesn't "save as" work in Word for Mac?

Am on OS X El Capitan and using Microsoft Word for Mac version 15.25.

When I try to "save as" to put a copy in a different folder, nothing happens.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Must have been fixed somewhere along the way, though I couldn't tell you in what point release of Office 2016. If I start a new Word document (also under the current 15.25 katemboston is using), Save and Save As… are both available choices and both work to save the document no matter which one I choose first.

Not enough info. What does "nothing happens" mean? No dialogue box comes up? The file isn't saved even though you click Save after entering a name and choosing a location?

Hi, correct - no dialogue box comes up. It is intermittent in Word. I can save and "save as" sometimes. Then at other times I click on "save as" and nothing happens. It is happening right now this morning to me. I also click "save" and nothing happens. Then, when I hit the red exit button to shut down, it will bring up a dialogue box and ask me if I want to save. I say yes, and then I can save it.
