Q: Time Capsule + modem advice (arris?)

Hi all-

Looking for advice on a new setup, with particular care given to the Arris SB + Time Capsule debacle.

My current setup:

TWC 100mbs + Arris SB6141 + Time Capsule.

Worked great (guess I was lucky) for a year, then moved and upgraded internet. Now I get the flashing yellow and DNS errors, with no luck resolving as I had before.

New setup (not working):

TWC 200mbs + Arris SB6141 + Time Capsule.

Not only can I not get this working, but the SB6141 won't support up to 200mbs as I understand it. So I need to make some changes to the modem regardless.

My questions is:

Here's where I need some help. What's the ideal setup in my situation? I think I have a few options with some questions:

  1. I buy a new non-Arris modem. Does anyone have any suggestions for what would work well in my setup?
  2. I buy a new Arris modem, like the SB6183. Does that work with TC and better than the 6141?
  3. I buy a new router and a new modem and use the TC in bridge mode (<- think I got that right)? Any suggestions for a new router if people think this is best?

Any thoughts on how to best proceed? I work with video fairly often for work, so ideally get this worked out. My other devices are a couple macs, an apple tv, phones... nothing crazy.

Thanks!

First step is that you should call your ISP (Time Warner Cable?) and have them send a service tech out to troubleshoot the modem they provided you. Good Luck.
Also Arris is now Motorola, and you are correct that a Motorola Surfboard SB6183 or newer SB6190 are the best stand-alone modems available to you that will work with your Time Capsule.

All the single port Surfboard series are problematic with Airport routers since AC models. We do not recommend them.

That is not the OP's problem - the OP is running a new ISP provided Surfboard modem in front of a Time Capsule router that does not configure properly in Airport Utility. Clearly there are myriad possible modem configuration problems that the ISP needs to troubleshoot in order for the OP to get his Time Capsule router network running properly.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the surfboard is my modem, so it's not ISP provided or I'd have them troubleshoot.
