Q: New MBP Battery Drain on Sleep

Hello,

I just purchased a MBP (early 2015) last month. Recently, I noticed the battery will drain at least 40% at night when it is in sleep mode. However, the battery seems to drain normally during use.

Does anyone have any insight into this problem?

Thanks

If it's a new device and you set up iCloud Photo Library, iTunes, syncing, backups, etc., a lot of that activity is taking place when the device is asleep and at night. This should stabilize after everything gets uploaded, download and synced. Notwithstanding, it's best to leave it plugged in all the time and overnight.

You might try a SMC reset:

If no success, take advantage of the warranty and make an Apple store genius bar appointment.

    Ciao.

    Hello Rysz,

Why is it best to leave it plugged in all the time and overnight?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have figured out the problem. My Macbook pro was hooked up to an external monitor. For some reason, this was the reason my battery was draining even when both the laptop and screen were asleep. I unhook my external monitor at night and now there is a normal about of battery drain. The drain that occurs when the laptop is sleeping due to the external monitor is a problem in itself, but I have not looked further into it.
