Saving already created documents in Pages

Every time I try to save, export or reformat a document in Pages, I get this response: "The file “XXXXXX” couldn’t be opened." What am I doing wrong? Or how can I work around this?

When you initially start a new document, and before you enter any content, simply save and give it a meaningful name other than Untitled.pages. The first time that you save will trigger autosave, and versioning. When you start entering your content, Pages will autosave it about every 10 - 15 seconds, whether on your boot drive, or on iCloud Drive.

By default, Pages will use the simplified Save/Save As interface until you toggle the v in the following image. Then it will remember the larger panel, and pay attention to where you save it, as that too is remembered.

As for the error dialog you receive, I cannot seem to duplicate that here with an unsaved document, or several duplicates of it. Are you attempting to save anywhere other than iCloud Drive, or your local OS X filesystem? Are you attempting to save into Google Drive, Dropbox, or other remote filesystems?
