i didn't share it with them i only logged into the app store to download an app and signed out of the store after completing the download. What settings would allow them to have seen my photos or my iMessages?
what if i just used my apple id to download an app and signed out?

Using your Apple ID & password, they can do everything, as advise CHANGE your Apple ID password.
Use the link in blue from my previous post.

You're now saying something rather different from what you opened with. If you entered your own password rather than sharing it with the other person, downloaded the app in question, and then signed out of the store, then there should be no risks as long as the other person wasn't watching you enter your password.
You might want to consider enabling Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support.

Yes. If you give somebody else the details of your Apple ID and its password they can poke around in any data stored in the cloud and make purchases on your account. This is not a sensible idea. Change your password now.

It seems you only signed into iTunes, you would need to have signed into iCloud and messages for them to see any photos or text messages. The only risk you have is them using your account to purchase apps and media, but you say you signed out so you should be fine.
Yes, with Photo Stream.
S/he can also read your messages as well.
It is not advisable to share your Apple ID with someone.
Whether or not you are signed in doesn't matter at all if they have your credentials.
When you signed out, the Apple ID on the other device is still signed in.
Best you change your Apple ID password.
Whilst it's a poor idea to share an ID, the other person can't necessarily see the photos on your phone, it entirely depends on your settings which you don't tell us about.
if i change my password to my apple id will they still be able to look through my stuff since i was logged on before?
If you change your password then they will also need to login with the new password.
