Q: New iPod Touch = no device in iTunes

Lost my old iPod Nano and bought a refurbished 5th gen iPod Touch (from the Apple Store) to replace it.  I plugged it into my computer and it automatically opened iTunes, and I have since then looked at my AppleID account and it IS listed as the one associated device on my account... but I cannot get it to show up in the Devices on iTunes so that I can sync my playlists, etc!  I tried doing a reset on the iPod, I checked and the iTunes software and iMac software are all up to date as well as the iTunes and base software on the iPod Touch.  HELP!!
