Aug 30, 2016 10:06 PM in response to Wahid2310by Niel,★HelpfulNo. Any message in a web browser saying that a Mac OS X system has a virus or other malware is a scam; some websites will legitimately scan files uploaded to them, but cannot scan the entire system.
Even on Windows, unless you manually started a malware scan in your web browser, the same point applies.

There are no viruses that can attack Mac.OS X. So, anti-virus programs are selling a cure for a disease that doesn't exist. And they are renowned for borking Mac systems.
A Mac can pick up malware but not if you just use common sense. You really have to actively invite some malware in for it to happen. That means downloading and knowingly giving your password for it to download. Aug 31, 2016 6:35 AM in response to Wahid2310by Eric Root,There are no viruses. The message is a scam that is attempting to get you to install MacKeeper, which you do not want to install. Do as macjack suggested. Force quit Safari and reopen with the shift key held down.
