In my wifi settings there is http proxy at the bottom. I want to know everything about it.

I happened to check the wi-fi settings on my iPhone and noticed that it says, at the bottom of the page, "HTTP Proxy," and has what appears to be buttons that state "Off," "Manual," and "Automatic."

In layperson's terms:

1) What is "HTTP Proxy" as it relates to the iPhone?

2) What is the difference between the three settings?

3) Is one setting more "secure" than another?

4) What are the benefits and detriments of choosing one setting over another?

I would like each of the 8 questions listed above answered in detail please and not "You don't need to worry about them if you don't already know what they are"

THANK YOU

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.5

Hey *******. As you can see I'm a level one. On top of that I am 50 years old so I did not grow up with this stuff. I tried to educate myself but you all use term as if everyone is on your level so I have no freaking idea what you all are talking about. I watched several YouTube videos, read Wikipedia, google the terms but STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Sorry I am not as smart as you but I am not a condescending ******* either

Well, I'm 65 years old, and I did cut my teeth on technology back in the heady days of the dawn of automation, and I have no clue what the http proxy settings are for. There are tons of things like that as I am sure you know, and if you need to know about it, you undoubtedly will.

ckuan was just letting you know that we don't know any more about it than you do. We may know stuff about Apple products and software, we have people here who know all sorts of arcane things that delve into the inner-workings of the system software, app software, hardware, firmware, middleware, distributed apps, web stuff, the list goes on and on.

And, there is every possibility that someone in this Community will see your post and be able to give you a blow by blow of the intricacies of http proxy server business. Don't give up all hope - you may get an answer at some point.....(just don't know how long that might be 😐)

But because it's a bit in the weeds, we just provided the best response we have at the moment so you didn't think we were ignoring you altogether..... 😁

Cheers,
