MacBook Partition Issue

MacBook 5,2 Early 2009

10.11.1

Hi,

I've been having issues with my wife's MacBook. The OS hung and we had to cycle the power. Since the we get a no entry sign during boot and it won't go any further.

So far I have tried.....

Extensions off

PRam reset

SMC Reset

Single user mode

Verbose mode

Recovery Mode - Disk Utility

Manual repair via fsck

Disk Utility sees the drive and verifies ok but the partition is greyed out and fails when repairing the catalog b tree. After a couple of reboots we then lost the ability to boot to recovery.

I've removed the HD and hooked it up to a MacMini also running El Capitan but alas the same issue. DU tells me to back up and reformat the drive but without the ability to mount the drive I can't get the data off. Filesalvage sees all the files on the disk so I'm guessing the file structure and data are ok but the partition is damaged.

Any ideas how I can mount this drive and get the data off?

Mac OS X (10.4.11)
