Q: upload photos from iphone to imac desktop

I have an iphone 6 and when I synch to imac I cannot find the photos or videos on the mac. It seems they have been sent to the cloud, but I just want to find the file on the phone and import it, in the same way you can do with DCIM folders on a pc.

How do I find the folder on the iphone, import it to the desktop and then import to iphoto?

iMac, iOS 7.1.1

They are not in iphotos under 'all photos' or under 'last import', despite a full synch being done.

If you've updated to El Capitan, it will be in Photos app and not in iPhoto app.

The most common way to bring the photos to your mac is to use Photos, as was mentioned.

If you want to more directly copy files to a specific folder on your mac instead, use Image Capture and import or drag directly the files to the Finder.

Using Photos, I cannot find the photos anywhere on my mac after synchronisation.

With the iphone connected by USB to the imac, I can see the iphone in itunes, but it only shows me how much memory is taken up by photos, documents etc, but does not show the photos files for import.

Do you not see them there in Photos? Click "Last Import" on the left.

I do not know what you mean by "sync". AFAICT there is no "sync" in Photos.

If you connected and disconnected your iPhone but did nothing else, the photos won't be in your mac.

You have to deliberately import them.

If you actually do see them in Photos, but want to access them as individual files, there are a number of ways you can do that as well - you can use the Share button to share to e-mail, facebook, twitter, etc; you can also export to your drive and use as you see fit.

They are not in photos in in last import.

The iphone automatically synchs with the imac when connected by wire, but as you say, that did not import the photos.

I cannot see how to import them- I can only see the iphone in itunes, but there is no file to import from.

itunes just wants to import from Photos into my phone.

Let me be abundantly clear about this: photos are NOT imported through iTunes.

They can be imported using Photos, Image Capture (and, yes, even iPhoto if it is still installed, but that is something I recommend against, since iPhotos has been replaced by Photos and will not be updated again).

You can also import them using iMovie or Final Cut Pro X.

Connect your iPhone and, if it does not automatically happen, open Photos.

You should see your iPhone on the left, like this:

    Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 11.21.12.png

If you select the iPhone, its pictures will show on the right. Select the ones you want and click "Import (n) Selected" or click "Import All New Items".

Then they will be imported. You will be able to see them by clicking on "Last Import".
Take the opportunity to create an album if you like, and drag them there, so you have them nicely grouped together, as in "London trip 2016", for example.

Once there, you can use many nice features of Photos (such as Faces, which allow you, after a little preparation, to easily locate people throughout your Photos library).

    Thank you- really helpful.

But this is my problem- when I connect the iphone, it does not come up in the panel on the left. I know it is connected because it is seen by itunes- but it is not seen by the photos app.

You may try quitting and restarting Photos; if it still does not work, try restarting your mac.

Also: does the iPhone also not appear in Image Capture?
