Reboot your MacBook Air, and with only the Pages application running, and the same document, reassess your interactive performance.
Pages v5 performance deteriorates as the document size and number of objects within it increases. If your MacBook Air is a 4GB RAM model, then you may need to run Pages, and no other user applications to conserve available memory.
There may be other systemic reasons why your MacBook Air is slow.
