Q: Legacy FileVault Home Directory Issue
Hi all,
I have a clients computer that is running 10.11 but is still using legacy file vault. Here is the kicker. The Sparse bundle file is 480GB but the clients computer is only 600GB (older Intel Mac Tower). The client for obvious reasons wants the file gone but since it is the encrypted version of the home directory I am unable to remove it (tried it and had to restore with TM). I can't shut it off because it requires so much space to disable filevault.
Any suggestions? I am at a point where I would just like to reformat it but I am hesitant because I would have to restore with Time Machine and just bring back the old file not to mention the disk encryption which already scares me.
If this is in the wrong place please let me know and I can move it over to the right place.

The Mac can install, boot, and run from any drive, internal or external. If the drive you have is not large enough to decrypt, attach a larger one, move the image over to it, and decrypt it there.
When drives cost US$1000 for 1 Megabyte, that slowed you down. But with today's drive prices, you can get a large external drive for pocket money.
