Q: My imovie is stuck on the spinning rainbow icon, and is frozen

My imovie screen has the small circular icon spinning on it, and I have a lot of unsaved progress. How can i get the icon to stop spinning/unfreeze it so i can save my progress

I was editing a slideshow project that also had movie clips:  adding titles, transitions, etc and got this spinning rainbow a couple of times.  I just had to Force Quit the program.  When I reopened, fortunately all of my work was still there and it started me at the place I left off.  Hope this helps.  I am using a  27" MAC purchased in 2009 with OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite and iMovie 10.1.1.

    What version of iMovie, on what Mac, with what operating system?
