Q: Kernel panic (disk not found?)

I have a quite serious problem with my new MacBook. In the last few months it went in kernel panic four or more times (I don't exactly remember how many) and I've saved detailed logs for three of them. All of the logs are exactly the same (except, obviously, for the memory addresses). Today it happened again and so, i decided to ask here, hoping someone will help me.

When a kernel panic occurs, on the screen appears a blinking folder with a question mark.

You have surely noticed that VirtualBox kernel extensions are loaded. I'm afraid to tell you that I've encountered the first two kernel panics before installing it.

    Kernel panics can be generated because of outdated software and/or hardware. Most suspect is the virtual box and the Nike software.

    Nike? I hope you're joking.

    NKE = Network Kernel Extension

    Have you tried running the Apple Hardware Check (Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support)?

    Typically kernel panics don't result in a reboot to a folder with a question mark. If it reboots to any screen, it is typically the one with the large power button saying that your system encountered an error.

    First...try a Safe boot. Hold down Shift while powering on the computer. Check and verify it is not being caused by third-party drivers.

    Second thing I would try, reinstall the operating system. The folder with a question mark is typically either hard drive, hard drive cable, or operating system related. Due to the complexity of the issue, if it's still persisting after a fresh operating system install, I would erase the hard drive completely and reinstall the operating system, as much as I hate to suggest that.

    If that doesn't work, then it is most likely that you have a hardware issue. Seeing as you have a MacBook, you are most likely dealing with a faulty logic board.

    Good luck!

    When this happened, I was already running a clean version of OS X. At this point, I think the only thing to do is to take my MacBook to an Apple Store and see what's going to happen.

    It seems to be a RAM problem or a Logic Board problem.

    Thanks
