Sep 1, 2016 8:31 PM in response to cowawby Bob Timmons,★HelpfulIf the Express was originally set up to connect to the AirPort Extreme using a wireless connection, and you later connected an Ethernet cable to the Express.......that creates a huge feedback loop that effectively crashes the network provided by the Express.
You will need to start over and reset the Express back to factory default settings, then set it up again.
If you want the Express to connect permanently at all times to the Extreme using an Ethernet cable, then you must establish that connection before you set up the Express again. The Ethernet cable cannot ever be disconnected.
If you want the Express to wirelessly extend the network, then you will not use an Ethernet cable at all during the setup.
If you need more tips, post back to let us know what operating system your Mac is running, or whether you are using a PC or an iPhone / iPad to set things up.

Sep 1, 2016 8:36 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby cowaw,Thank you, but I realized I didn't make myself clearer. My Express is at the other side of my home, I'm not using ethernet for a wired connection between the Extreme and Express, I meant to say that I'm using the ethernet cable to plug in my Xbox to the Express, but the ethernet cable doesn't allow internet connection on my xbox when it's plugged into the express. And if it will help, I'm using a Macbook Pro, running version 10.9.3 OS X. My issue is that the Airport Express (wirelessly extending my Extreme) shows green, but gives off a very weak connection and there's no connection to the internet if the ethernet is plugged into a device like my mac or my xbox.

Sep 1, 2016 8:51 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby cowaw,UPDATE: I've also tried restarting to factory settings using the 'hard-reset' way. It hasn't worked. For some reason I'm still getting a weak connection. Also a note that I've added DHCP Reservations and Port Settings to my Extreme, updated it, then these errors followed. Could that have anything to do with this problem? (If you want to see what i changed, look at this: Xbox Open NAT (Apple Routers))

Sep 2, 2016 7:06 AM in response to cowawby Bob Timmons,★HelpfulUnfortunately, I do not have an Xbox on hand to test the settings in the User Tip by Tesserax.
Fortunately, Tesserax is a regular contributor here on the forum, and I am sure that he will answer when he sees this post.

Sep 2, 2016 7:16 AM in response to cowawby Bob Timmons,In the meantime, it would help if you could find out whether the settings that you changed on the AirPort Extreme are working correctly.
To do that, as a test, connect the Xbox directly to one of the LAN<--> Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme and see if the Xbox is working that way.
If it is, then we can continue to troubleshoot the AirPort Express.
But, if the Xbox is not working correctly during your test, then we'll have to back track and figure out what the issue might be with the AirPort Extreme before we can troubleshoot the AirPort Express.
Obviously, if the AirPort Extreme is not working correctly, then neither will the AirPort Express work correctly.

Sep 2, 2016 8:50 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby cowaw,You're right, ethernet doesn't work on the Extreme either. Any ideas on why?

Sep 3, 2016 9:58 AM in response to cowawby Tesserax,I am assuming that you are saying that you are still not able to get an "Open NAT" status with your Xbox even when connected directly to the AirPort Extreme ... correct?
You also mentioned that you have made "port settings" as well. If you have configured the Extreme for port mapping, then you will NOT get to an Open NAT status. You must configure the Extreme to place the Xbox in a DMZ. With port mapping, at best, your Xbox should report a "Moderate NAT" for connection status.

Sep 4, 2016 9:57 PM in response to Tesseraxby cowaw,I understand and read that, the thing is, my xbox shows up with an Open NAT. I'm not really having troubles with the xbox, I'm just wondering if adding public and private UDP and TCP ports onto port settings, and a DCHP reservation onto my extreme, then updating, would set the express off balance, it's not really about the xbox working or not. I actually have my xbox have a wired connection to my express. I just notice that the ethernet isn't working for the express or the extreme, and that's what I'm trying to fix.

Sep 5, 2016 7:52 AM in response to cowawby Tesserax,No, setting up port mapping on the Extreme or DHCP reservations should not affect the base station's ability to provide connectivity via Ethernet for either base station ... as long as both are configured properly.
How they are configured for an extended network will depend on if they are interconnected by Ethernet or by wireless.
According to your last reply to Bob, your Xbox is not getting connectivity when connected directly to the Extreme by Ethernet ... so the troubleshooting should start there.
However, I would first suggest that you try connecting another computer to the Extreme's Ethernet port to rule out the Xbox's Ethernet interface as being bad.

Sep 5, 2016 11:48 AM in response to Tesseraxby cowaw,I'm ahead of you there: I tested ethernet on my express and extreme for xbox and for my computer. Something is off for the ethernet, not the devices.

Sep 6, 2016 11:26 AM in response to cowawby Tesserax,... and I'm sure you already tried each of the LAN ports on the Extreme, as well as, using another known good Ethernet cable ... correct?
If that is the case, and the results are the same, then there may be something amiss with the Extreme's built-in Ethernet switch.
The earlier v5.x of the AirPort Utility allowed you to change the Ethernet settings on the base station's WAN port, but this feature was removed with the newer 6.x utility.
