iOS 9.3.6 update
Since updating iPhone 5S and and iPad with latest security fix in iOS 9.3.5 all appointments in iCal prior to July 2016 have vanished. Has anyone else experienced this and how can I retrieve them?

the problem started following update to iOS 9.3.6 NOT iOS 9.3.5 as shown in my post - iOS 9.3.6 is not available to choose as operating system in Apple dropdown menu !!!!!
