Q: Itunes timing issue with downloads
I recently attempted to update my IPhone 5s IOS and received the 1671 error message, basically turning my phone into a brick that would not reboot under and circumstances. After going to the Genius Bar to prepare it, I once again two weeks later, try it again for the next release - thinking the problem was fixed. Got the same 1671 message. Frustrated and while waiting for two week until I could get back to the Apple store, I attempted to upgrade the IOS on my IPad and received the same 1671 message.
Through trail and error and time to kill, I discovered that the problem was with the ITunes appl. and my really really slow internet service (Bahamas). The ITunes appl. was attempting to perform the 'Update/Restore' before the requested software was downloaded from the server. To correct, I simply watched my PC Task Manager looking at ITunes ex. and waited until it was quiet before answering the 'Are you sure you want to restore the IPhone..' prompt.
Question: Why doesn't the ITunes appl. wait for the download and why doesn't the appl. give some indication of the 'downloading' except for when you try and quit the appl. and you receive the message '.. currently downloading, do you really want to quit?'
Got both devices restored and cancelled the latest Genius Bar appointment.
