Q: iPhone 6s Plus stops playing in car
Hello all, hoping you can help me with an issue that, given I live and breathe with my maps app and iTunes for my commute, is a big problem.
Last week, following the upgrade of my iPhone 6s Plus to 9.3.5, my phone stopped working with my car's USB connection - However its weird, let me explain:
- Charging works at all times, so that's not a problem.
- Initially my phone DOES work, its after 1-2 minutes that all sound stops from the phone. My car's screen (its a 2012 GMC Terrain w/ Intellilink) freezes on "Reading from USB". By all sound, I mean anything that would come from the phone - Maps directions, music, Bluetooth calls, etc.
- Any other source (AM/FM, CD, etc.) still work
- If I unplug the phone, still works
- My phone still works with my bluetooth headsets, Fitbit, etc
I can't say 100% its a 9.3.5 issue, as my wife's phone and my daughter's both work still (using the same cord and apps - both are also at 9.3.5). I don't believe its a car issue, as both of the iPhones above still work as mentioned, plus I haven't done anything service-wise to the car for a while.
Here's what's I've tried to fix the issue:
- Restored to a previous backup
- Restored to factory settings (setting apps and stuff back up has been FUN!)
- Tried closing all apps that have historically caused glitches (Facebook, etc.)
- Tried turning off Bluetooth, Wifi, Airplane settings
- Switched to std iTunes from iTunes Music
- Turned off data streaming from cellular
- Turned off handoff
So far, nothing's worked. I did a chat with Apple Support, but (as I kinda expected) they suggested it was a car issue. I'm taking my car in for service in a few weeks (already planned), and I expect they will tell me its a phone issue.
Has anyone seen something like this before? Is there anything left I can try? Thanks in advance for the help!
