Q: Is my operating system slowing me down?

  • I have an older MacBook Late 2008. I just want to use it for simple Office type applications and maybe some apps. I am running OS X Yosemite. Is that appropriate? Should I upgrade(keeps asking me to Upgrade to OS X El Capitan? downgrade? What system is best for this older MacBook?
  • Thanks in advance. Be kind- Still a Mac newbie.

So, do you feel that your mac is slow and slows down your workflow? If so you should consider to upgrade your hardware or check your installation if any issues cause a slow down of your experience.

Regarding El Capitan. El Capitan brings several new features that may enhance your workflows. You may want to check it out. Please keep in mind to backup all your files before doing the backup.

El Capitan requires early 2009 or newer MacBook, in the case MacBook Pro, it requires Mid/Late 2007 or newer.
