Reset
How do I reset my mid 2012 MacBook pro 15' and keep Apps but get rid of my info? Can I just trash files? How about preferences? It is for my son.

If he'll be using the computer but it'd remain yours, open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences and create a new account.
If you'll be selling or giving the computer to him, click here and follow the instructions. You'd need to either give/sell him those applications or delete them; ones from the Mac App Store can't be transferred except through Family Sharing.
