Q: Stream ALAC format in ITune

How can I steam music in ALAC format from my ITune playlist? All the files in my playlist are in AAC format.

No. If they are AAC they will stream as AAC. Music streamed from Apple Music will be AAC

    Thanks Jim. So does this mean apple doest support ALAC format for streaming? Does ALAC format works when you purchase music or does it work only when music converted for ALAC?

    Hi,

    If you have ALAC tracks and subscribe to Apple Music, matched tracks will be AAC 256 Kbps and uploaded tracks will be transcribed to AAC 256 Kbps and this the format they will be streamed on your other devices. The original tracks on your computer will not be changed - if you use AirPlay to play them on external speaker, they will be played as is and be subject to the restrictions of the receiving device.

     

    IiTunes Store does not sell ALAC tracks and there is no benefit in converting AAC tracks to ALAC.
