Q: what if you find a iphone 4s and it is not yours and you had it for 2 years now and you don't know the passcode.. will the recovery mode work?

I have had this iphone 4s for 2 years it's in perfect condition, i just don't know the passcode to unlock it. Will the " recovery mode " work ?
