Sep 1, 2016 8:02 PM in response to leroydouglasby havemusicwilltravel,No. Based on what I have read I didn't think that was a solution. It says nothing about a system that refuses to boot up. I have a Fusion drive. That creates issues sometimes. I am about to call Apple support. My computer was fine until the update. And I am not positive the update did a full complete. I think my screen went black and never recovered.

Sep 1, 2016 8:36 PM in response to leroydouglasby havemusicwilltravel,And a full system restore did not solve my problem. I have put a call in to Apple. I have tried everything I know of. I'm glad for backups and multiple computers. Upsetting that a simple security update could totally disable my computer.
And sorry for any confusion on the two usernames. I haven't been in the community support with issues in a few years.

Mac OS XWe have an early 2015 MBP here doing the same thing... Black screen after login.
Did full system restore, safe boot, and PRAM reset, but no luck.
SSH seems to still work, at least. We used it to try uninstalling some third-party apps, but no use.
At least the affected coworker gets to start his Labor Day Weekend early.

Sep 2, 2016 8:51 PM in response to havemusicwilltravelby KelseyKeefe,Same. 2011 Macbook Pro, 13". I took a nap (lol) while it updated and an hour or so later logged in and it hung after I typed my password... So I rebooted; same idea. Reset SMC and PRAM, I can get into the guest account. Just sort of starting troubleshooting it now but I'm thinking I need to reinstall, which is a real hassle. I feel like around six months ago I had to do a refresh of sorts after an update, too, but I don't remember that precisely. Annoying.
The load bar after typing my password gets to 100% and then sits there indefinitely. False hope.

Sep 4, 2016 7:52 AM in response to havemusicwilltravelby SkySailor22630,My Macbook Pro (Mid 2012 - 10.11.6) also will not boot/load past my main user login point - eternal spinning gear upon user password entry. Guest login (with no privileges) does work. Had to restore to pre-2016-001 state via TimeMachine. Tried the update once more and no luck the second time either. Restored from TM once again. Tried all the usual attempts at remedy but to no avail. First and only problem I've ever had with Mac updates.
