Q: Made a nice title  .  .  .  save its attributes for future use?

I'm sure I have asked this before but I have forgotten the answer and can't find it again!

I have created a nice title with customised fonts etc. which I would like to use again. (Using different words of course).

Can I create it in FCP X directly (like saving a customised effect) or do I have to go through Motion and publish it etc.?

    Hi Ian.

Vaguely remember the question; don't remember what answers you got.

I know that some people customize the title and store it as a compound in a separate library for reuse.  Making it in Motion and having it available in the title browser is probably the way to go if you intend to reuse it many times.

Thanks Russ, I tried the compound clip approach but it seems you are only saving the title as it is and can no longer alter the words, style and fonts etc.

Hmm…does opening the compound make it editable? (Again, Motion would be more convenient.)

You can save "custom" Text Styles. Say you create a 3D style from Hitchhiker Regular, Size 225.0 with 3D Text turned on, Depth 80, Weight 2.0; with a Custom Specular layer added so it looks like:

You can go into the Text Inspector, at the top of the inspector column you'll see "Normal" but with the currently applied styling:

If you click on that bar, you will get a drop down menu of all your saved (and a few preset) styles:

If you select Save All Format and Appearance Attributes, you can save your style (it will be available in Motion too!) You will be presented with a dialog box to provide a custom name for your style.

In the future, you can load up a Title and style the text by going to the same dropdown menu and selecting your saved settings:
