Q: how can i transfer all messages/conversations from my iphone to messages.app on my mac?
Hi folks,
perhaps someone can help me:
how can i transfer the whole content of my messages-app on my iphone to the messages app on my mac?
the problem ist, when i create in the messages-app a new account with my appl-ID (for example on a new mac) that i am also using with my iphone, then everything works fine from the startpoint of creation.
BUT ... no older messages, that i have on my iphone will be displayed in the new messages.app-account on my mac.
i have thousands of older messages and conversations, i now only can see on my phone or with some more or less useful thirdparty-apps. those only can vonert the messages to pdfs or som other semi-useful fileformats > but no one can transfer it back into the messages-app.
- i learned, that apple doesn't store my imessages for longer than 72hours (which makes me happy because of data-privacy), so i cannot get them via the imessages-servers.
- i also learned, that it is possible to transfer the data from the library-folders of a previous account. but unfortunately, i just deleted those files accidently, so this solution won't help:
- i had serious problems to activate SMS-forwarding on a second mac (i guess i did not manage it in between), so i went in the ususal try&error-process and deactivated the messages-account on the mac.
- after this i cleared all caches with the help of onyx. then i restarted the macbook and the iphone and restarted the messages-app.
- the app behave like "never used beofre": i entered my apple-ID, the app remembered my cellphone-number and all other settings of the old account, but ALLE THE MESSAGES WERE GONE.
- i am sure i deleted the by using onyx. but there should be a way to win them back?
system config:
- early 2011-17"-macbook pro with newest el capitan (10.11.6)
- iphone 6 with newest iOS (9.3.5)
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME – although i am using third party software ...

Hi,
It cannot be done.
iMessages are pushed from the iMessages servers to the devices registered at that time.
They are not held on the servers and are deleted once the receiving Devices accept them.
(i.e. it's not like email that can be left on the sever (POP) or remains on the server (IMAP) to be retried by other devices that can login later).
The way the files/iMessages are stored on the iPhone and the way the Mac stores them are not the same.
It is possible to have the iPhone store a Backup via iTunes on the Mac.
From there it is possible to use third party Apps to read them (extract them and have them as Text files) but these cannot be forced into Messages.
Copy and Pasting whole conversations from one chat to another that is to the Mac send s it as one long piece of text with little (no usable) formatting.
Doing so may also have issues with effectively duplicating the whole file with storage space on the iPhone in the first place.
