Q: Imaged crashed HD of Mac mini inaccessible
In an attempt to recover all my files from my crashed HD, I made an image of it with a system called Rapidspar. I removed the HD (2 TB Seagate) from my mini and connected it via a SATA adapter to this Rapidspar and imaged it to a regular 3.5 desktop HD. The imaging went fine. I then attempted to connect this imaged drive to my wife's MacBook Air via a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter cable, but when I plugged it in, the system didn't recognize it. I then went in to Disk Utility and found the drive appear there, but in Red Letters "Mac HD". When I clicked on it, a pop up appeared and said that I had to repair this drive so I clicked on "Fix", but then got a message saying that all the data would be lost so I cancelled it.
The image only contains the data that was on the failing HD and I don't understand why I cannot access this drive. Does it have to be a special Apple compatible drive? This is the kind of drive that contains the image: Seagate 3TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST3000DM001). Any help will be much appreciated!
Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11)
