Q: iMovie Creates Too Many Clips During Import

Hi,

I'm importing old home movies and have run into an interesting issue. When connecting an older Sony MiniDV camera via Firewire to my MacBook Pro, it is creating a crazy amount of individual clips - of different lengths (between half a second and five seconds) - from video that has no breaks in it. So a ten minute solid clip (no stops), I'll have nearly 100 small clips in iMovie.

I've actually switched computers - and cables - thinking it might be a computer issue, but it's still doing it. I'm trying to determine where the issue is. I'm hoping to avoid importing analog video if possible.

Anyone have this issue before?

Thank you!

This problem has come up several times in the discussions. No solution have I ever seen posted. Usually this is related to time code issues on the clip. Some folks have reported success by importing in Quicktime and then transferring to iMovie. You might try importing into Quicktime.
