My internal speakers sound awful?

I just bought my MacBook Pro (Mid-2012) yesterday and for something so expensive, my speakers are downright awful. I will admit that my musical knowledge is only adequate (so don't kill me if I use them slightly incorrectly) but it feels like there is no bass or treble. They just sound so 'hollow' if you know what I mean. When I plug in apple headphones, they sound great and even on my £300 Dell Laptop audio sounds great (well, certainly much better than my current experience). Is this a common issue or is it just me?

The audio feels like I am listening through them awfully cheap, really crap headphones (you know those ones you get with android phones)

Apple speakers have always been known to be sub-par. Do yourself a huge favor and purchase external speakers: bluetooth or plug-in.

Even the bottom of the line Altec Lansing will impress you greatly. You can find used computer speakers most any Goodwill, eBay etc. If you want to save a few bucks, well worth it !

Hi,

Yeah I've heard this was an issue on some newer MacBook Pros, you can try pressing ⌘⌥2 (Command-Option-2) and it will bring up the equalizer. When you have it open go to the side where you see "pre-amp." If it isn't already click the box that says on and then turn it all the way up. It might help it might not.

So does the speaker sound on all of my MBPs (sound poor). The laws of physics preclude any decent sound and range from the builtin speakers. They are strictly utilitarian.

However a good set of earphones is a different story. You can get very good sound and that is what I use if I listen to music or watch a video.
