Q: what to do if the previous owner does not know their apple ID or Password?

when i first purchased my Ipod touch  5th generation i did not know i could make an apple ID of my own so my cousin put hers in and now years later i haven't touched my Ipod and she mus have used find my iphone and it locked me out saying i need to use the apple ID i used to set up my ipod however she does not remember any of the information for it is my ipod locked forever?
