Q: iCloud to get more free space

Hi!

I'm desperately trying to free up some space on my MacBook and signed up for extra storage on the cloud. But I found myself facing several problems that are starting to drive me crazy:

- A LOT of errors happen during the downloading of the file on iCould drive. Example from today: 900 files not copied. And nothing was wrong with those files! This is huge, ok. Usually, it's more like 5-6, but it's super annoying because I have to check one by one the files and add them manually (when you only have -50 files, it's ok, but a few thousands?)...

- The worst: every time I add something on the cloud, my Macbook storage space gets smaller. After a few researches, I understood that iClou was making doubles of every single files that it downloads. So the question is: how can I delete these copies?

- When I add something on iCloud Drive via the Finder, I don't find them online (icloud.com). So are the files in this folder the copies that are bothering me so much? Or is it a problem of synchronisation?

I'm lost

Thank you in advance for anyone who can save us, my mental health and me.

iCloud Drive as it is currently designed keeps a local copy of everything on your Mac. If you delete the local copy from the iCloud Drive folder on your Mac it will also be deleted from iCloud if you have Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive turned on. It is not designed to be a cloud-only storage solution to free up space on your Mac.

The next version of OS X for Mac (Sierra) which is coming this Fall has some new features that will allow you to make room on your Mac by storing rarely used files on iCloud. See: http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra-preview/
