Q: Early 2008 Imac Restarts when idle

I have a 2008 Imac that has begun randomly rebooting itself.  It is always during the middle of the night during periods of inactivity.  It will try to boot itself.  I can hear it cycle the optical drive, then spin up the harddrive and then it will try to start the fan.  Then it will give up and start over.  It will do that for about 5 times, and then I will hear the startup chime.  It will do that a few times, and then the screen will flash.  It will do that a couple of times and then it will get the apple logo and boot up.  I have reinstalled the operating system from the recovery disk, reset the SMC, reset the NVRAM, booted into single user mode, did a full hardware test from a USB drive, pulled both memory sticks and reinstalled one at a time, installed a single different memory module.  Nothing is ever found wrong from the diagnostics, but all trials resulted in the same behavior.  As a check I decided to keep the computer active.  I started up a full screen 48 hour youtube video and left it running overnight and whenever I am not using the machine.  I haven't had a single crash while doing this.  The only time it rebooted is when I forgot briefly and went away for a couple of hours, and came back.  The machine had rebooted itself again when that happened.  It never crashes when I am using the computer.  Also, when I purposely reboot the machine using the restart menu it boots right up without cycling through a bunch of partial reboots.  Any ideas?

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem for clues.

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.

A few dozen lines should be about right, hundreds or thousands won't likely be readable.

What all 3rd party extentions are you running?

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Attached is the Etrecheck report.  I am only running Dropbox as a third party extension.  The console currently shows no reboot error as I have been running a video to keep the computer active, and haven't had a reboot problem since then.  I am a little leery of letting the computer go into reboot cycle as it seems pretty harsh on the hardware:
