Q: Change Location of Playlists file from PC to NAS

I created a lot of genius playlists (-awseome functionality-) and personal playlists (-to transfer to my IPOD-) and I understood these files are stored in iTunes Music Library.xml.

I located the file iTunes Music Library.xml and it is stored under C:\Users\Wim\Favorites\Music

while my entire music library (>400CDs) is stored on a NAS under \\lacinema_HD\LaCie\010_Music.

Every Itunes store purchase and every CD import goes directly to the NAS and it works fine with Sonos.

I want my My Sonos to access the playlist files. However, this requires the PC to be running, which is seldom the case while we all use IPADs in our family.

Therefore I want to move the playlists (currently stored on the C drive) to the NAS (-which is running 24/7-) so they can be accessed when the PC is not running.

The "share XML libraries with other programs" is enabled.

Thanks in advance for your support.

(Running Windows 10 and Itunes 12.4)

    Several things here.

    1) The .xml is not the file iTunes uses, it just creates the .xml for other programs to use.  iTunes uses the .itl which only it can read.

    2) This is the iTunes for Mac forum. Just for future reference.

    3) You can put iTunes files on a NAS but at least on the Mac side of things surprising and not happy things can happen when iTunes is used with a NAS. Yes, it is a popular concept but if you do it you may be back here at some time in the future asking why suddenly Beethoven's 5th plays when you click on an ABBA track, or links are unexpectedly broken.

    4) In order to get the .xml onto the NAS will require moving your library:

Apple's 6 page, meticulous step-by-step instructions: How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - https://support.apple.com/HT204318  It is handy if you suspect any of your media are not in the standard location.

My one-sentence summary if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive, hold down the option/alt key (shift on Windows) while starting iTunes, and when requested to select a library select the iTunes Library.itl file in the copied folder (Open a different iTunes Library file or create a new one - https://support.apple.com/HT201596).
