Q: Downloading OSX to make install USB

Quick question. I am running Mavericks on my macbook pro. I DO NOT want to install El Capitan (at this time), but I want to download the .app so I can create an install drive on an 8G USB stick.

Do I just click the "Get" button? What will that do? Will it automatically try to install El Capitan? Do I need to start the install myself? Just want to be sure that it won't just start installing. Can someone please explain what I should see and what I need to do to NOT install. I can figure out the rest of it (creating the installer drive).

Pressing 'get' will get the file, you will then have to press 'install' to install it. The uninstalled file will be left in your applications folder.

You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program which will do all the work for you.

Ah, yes, I just tried again and it came up. Downloaded it too. I guess they were having some issues. Looks good now.

It will download from the app store, but it won't install it if you turn off notifications for updates.

Notifications have nothing do with it, it will download and it won't install if you do nothing.
