Try flipping over the connector, it may work better in one orientation than than the other.
Check the docking port for fluff. If found try to blow out with compressed air or tease out very gently with a thin sliver of plastic taking care not to damage any of the contacts. You really need a magnifying glass and bright light to consider this, and do so at your own risk.

If you are not using an Apple certified charging cable, the charger may no longer be compatible with the new software.
