Q: How fast your imac boots?

Hi guys!

Just interested how fast your iMac boots (like minutes and seconds) till your first opened app is fully responsive? I have late 2013 iMac 21.5" 2.7 GHz intel core i5, 8GB RAM , runs El Capitan and it feels quite long. Also after start up apps like Chrome and utorrent open sooo slowly. After that everything runs fine.

I got curious and just booted my Mac, a somewhat ancient 21.5 inch mid-2010 i-Mac. I was curious as it does feel slow to boot sometimes, however, I was pleasantly surprised compared to the Dell laptop my employer has provided me with (but it is bogged down with a lot of security software). The Mac has a 3.06 GHz core i3, 12 GB RAM and is running OS X 10.11.6. This is an off-the-shelf unit from a nearby Apple store from November 2010.  It took 88 seconds to load the desktop then an additional 8 seconds to load a web page. I then opened mail and I was at 1 min 43 seconds by the time mail synced. It does have a 7200 RPM HD which helps, but a SSD would undoubtedly be faster (I've thought of booting from an external SSD but the processor is getting pretty old, I may be close to needing/wanting a new machine). The Dell takes a little over twice as long. So how fast (slow?) does your machine boot?

Well it is almost 3 min from "on" button to first page opened in Chrome. So it got me wondering if it slow and I have to do something about it... And apparently I do

Hi Izmisusais, why don't you run an  EtreCheck, report? It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.

Startup time is dependent on a number of factors other than the speed of hard drive, how many LogIn Items are loading, Launch Daemons, Startup Items, etc.

You have kaspersky and avira installed, any one of them can mess up your Mac, two is worse, uninstall them both

Torrents commonly are homes for malware, uninstall BitTorrent.

Other than that mess your report looks OK.

Here's what is affecting your startup time Kaspersky and Avira. Uninstall them.

There are no viruses that can attack Mac.OS X. So, anti-virus programs are selling a cure for a disease that doesn't exist. And they are renowned for borking Mac systems.

    Remove  Avira:

    https://www.avira.com/en/support-for-business-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1242

    For Kaspersky:

    Use the provided uninstaller.

You did not remove it correctly (not uncommon, A/V software is similar to viruses, and equally hard to get rid of)

Follow macjacks advice to get rid of it.

One or more of the following may help:

    http://support.kaspersky.com/9941

    http://support.kaspersky.com/8366

"Avast" also appears to be installed, or was installed at one time and not completely uninstalled. Uninstalling "Avast" requires using its uninstaller.

Using ill-conceived "anti-virus" products on a Mac will cause improper operation and increase its exposure to threats. Don't use them. Read Effective defenses against malware and other threats.

If you are still unable to rid your Mac of the "anti-virus" products affecting it, restore from a Time Machine backup created prior to installing them.

So both AV are removed, but it doesnt seem to be booting faster. Any other ideas? Maybe clean install? Or wait for Sierra?
