Q: How fast your imac boots?

Hi guys!

Just interested how fast your iMac boots (like minutes and seconds) till your first opened app is fully responsive? I have late 2013 iMac 21.5" 2.7 GHz intel core i5, 8GB RAM , runs El Capitan and it feels quite long. Also after start up apps like Chrome and utorrent open sooo slowly. After that everything runs fine.

    Any other ideas?

Sure. Get rid of Google. Installing Google products modifies a Mac in the exact same manner as a "virus", if such a thing were to exist on a Mac, which it doesn't. Google also insists on installing a constantly-running process that automatically checks for and updates those modifications without your intervention, in the exact same way a "virus" might do also. I know of no other company that does that, not even Apple. That means a Mac that runs acceptably well one day might start to run poorly the next, making it difficult to correlate that poor performance to anything you might have done.

Running a torrent client is also asking for trouble.

You asked how long it takes an iMac to boot. It can vary, but booting from a traditional hard disk drive, the answer is about a minute, a minute and a half at most, to the login screen. A recent Mac with solid state memory should take less than thirty seconds. As long as Google remains installed through, it's not your Mac. You ceded control of it to Google. They should be paying you to use it. After all, it's your personal information they're harvesting and selling to anyone willing to pay for it.

Run another EtreCheck report, some files may have been left behind. As far as upgrading to Sierra, it is not a good idea. An update can only exacerbate the problem. Fix it now, before upgrading. A clean install will certainly fix it, but it would be nice to find a way short of that.

FWIW, most of my Macs take about 20-25 seconds to boot to the desktop. And yes, I have Google Chrome installed on all six so I don't think that's your problem.

About which part? The boot time or that I have Chrome installed on all of them?

So, you disagree with me that I have Chrome installed on all of them. You can come to my house and see for yourself. If I just posted six screenshots I'm sure some would think they're faked.

Are deliberately being obtuse or do you really not understand?

Chrome is junk, is that clear enough for you?

It could be that I'm being obtuse because I vehemently disagree that Chrome is junk. If I did, I wouldn't have it on all my Macs, not to mention my Windows 10 laptop and my Linux box and virtual machines.

I also have Firefox installed on all of them, safari of course on the Macs. I have the developer version of Opera on one iMac, the Fluid Browser, the Safari Technology Preview etc. etc.

It would be nice if your "opinion" was based on any facts though. But I guess that doesn't count for much on here.
