Q: using old version of back up

Does the old version of "backup" still work on El Capitan? I mean the one with the umbrella icon. I have an extra back up drive that isn't big enough to back up with time machine but "backup" will allow you just to do home folder or photo's etc.

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 8gb ram, restored from iMac 2006

Don't know about Backup compatibility, but I wouldn't risk it.

Time Machine allows you to exclude drives and folders that you don't want to backup, so you can leave only the ones you do want. Click on the Options button in TM.
