Q: iTunes on NAS issue
I have my iTunes music library on an external drive called “MUSIC_HD” formatted in FAT32 - I use it for DJing.
I recently purchased a QNAP NAS and figured I could create a shared folder called “MUSIC_HD” then copy the contents to this & use the copied iTunes library as a mount within my MacBook, so at home I could sort out all my music using the shared mount, then as I prepare for a gig I could put the Ext HD in and copy the changes over then off I go….(I would be using the QNAP sync capability - which only syncs the changes to any folders/files)
I was hoping having named them the same, that iTunes would just open based on the drive name in “/Volumes” even though one would be the shared network drive & the other the ext HD. That didn’t seem to work, although Traktor worked just fine?? Anyway, that’s not the issue…
The issue I started to notice, was when I played a track in the opened iTunes library via the network share, it would automatically move the track into a newly created folder (based on Artist > Album) into the “iTunes Media” folder and out of the “iTunes Media/Music” folder. I checked the media folder location in prefs & even re-selected it, this still occurs. This issue does not occur on the external hard drive.
Does anyone have any idea why it would be doing this?
