Brand new MacBook Air flickering screen

Sept 3, 2016

Yesterday, my month old MacBook Air 13" went to a totally black screen. I could see NOTHING on the screen. The keyboard was backlit so I knew it was on, but black screen. Read online, did all the restarts, PRAM, SAFE mode, etc, multiple times ...... nothing. Today, tried to get into Apple retail shop / repair -- can't go until next week. Again, tried the reboots incessantly with differing keyboard combinations -- it finally booted with a light, madly flickering screen. It stays lit about 30-40 seconds, then goes to black again. Reset the SMC so many times -- nothing working.

Nothing is connected -- no external drives, DVD, anything. Very simple set-up --- just please turn on and get mail / poke around the web. End of story.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks Dominic23 - but I did that NUMEROUS times........ One of the first things I tried even prior to read online. Wish that would have done the trick.....

Going into the Apple Store / Repair center relatively near me..... It seems it may be outside of just some software /hardware interaction glitch.

Thank you.
