Q: Numbers upgrade - can't find field to edit!

Sorry if I'm being dense here, I'm sure there's an obvious answer that someone here will know but I just cannot fathom it nor find any info already online.

I've just upgraded from Mountain Lion to El Capitan.  I then upgraded an earlier Numbers spreadsheet to edit it in El Capitan.  After editing I printed it and a field I can't see anywhere on the new version, or find any way to access, comes out on the printed copy (immediately above the table and is text on 2 lines).

I believe this field used to be editable in Mountain Lion in a sidebar on the left, but I don't remember the name of it so I can't look up how to access it in the upgraded version.  I do know, however, it's not the table name or sheet name because I can see where to edit those.

Can anyone kindly help me find how to access this hidden field so that I can edit it?

In advance, many thanks for sharing your expertise and ideas.

Jackie

I just answered my own question!   After hours of looking in the Inspector, I had one more idea the moment after I'd posted this question here, of course.

In case it is helpful to anyone else who doesn't already know this (I skipped several major OS upgrades, thus am unusually behind with new features/functions):  it can be seen and edited in the print dialogue box.  The 'invisible' text shows up there and, zooming in for better visibility, you can edit it.

Sorry to have bothered you, and thanks for your time.

    Hi Jackie,

    You haven't bothered anyone.

Perhaps you mean the page header which (in Numbers 3) does not show until you go Menu > File > Print. Then you can click in it and edit.

Here is Print Setup > Insert > Page Number

    Happy Numbering!

Ian - thank you so much.  That is indeed it:  mystery solved, it's the page header!!  Much appreciated, thanks, as it's frustratingly impossible to look something up if you aren't sure what it's called and the solution isn't initially intuitive.

Grateful there are generous, skillful folk such as you on these boards, willing to be so helpful.

    Best wishes
