Sep 4, 2016 4:06 AM in response to DizzyMby léonie,How have you been using the watch during the three hours? Have you been running a workout application all the time during the three hours? If you keep a workout application running for hours, that needs to monitor the heart rate and communicate with the watch for GPS data, it can drain the battery quickly.
See: https://help.apple.com/watch/#/apd36e57e00c
Conserve power during a long workout. You can save power by disabling the heart rate sensor during long walking and running workouts. Your calorie burn estimates might not be as accurate. Open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch, tap Workout, then turn on Power Saving Mode.

Battery life varies depending on use and other factors.
In tests, for example, Apple achieved 18 hours of battery life with the following usage: 90 time checks, 90 notifications, 45 minutes of app use and a 30-minute workout with music playback from Apple Watch via Bluetooth. Other examples of battery life under different usage are available here:
If your watch is experiencing shorter battery life than Apple's examples suggest you should expect, try the following steps, which have helped to resolve battery life issues for some users:
- If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:
- Close all open apps on your iPhone and then restart both your iPhone and your watch:
- On your iPhone: double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview to close it;
- Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first;
- Unpair and re-pair your watch:
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app. When setting it up again, choose to Restore from Backup. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).
- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- If you have previously used the Workout app and/or any third-party fitness tracking apps (such as Strava) to record workouts on your watch, check on your watch to see whether there is presently a paused or running activity within any of those apps. If there is, end that activity from within that app on your watch (not on your iPhone).
- If in doubt, temporarily remove any third-party fitness app (eg Strava) from your watch.
- Note that you should not use the Workout app except when recording a specific workout. The Activity app runs automatically in the background, tracking progress towards your daily Move, Stand and Exercise goals.
- Under earlier software versions, some users reported experiencing battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars. If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:
- Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
- Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
- Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies, immediately upon receipt, into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.
- Finally, it may help to remove all third-party apps from your watch and then monitor battery performance after adding them back, one at a time. The same applies in respect of watch face complications.
Having tried the previous steps, if your watch continues to experience significantly shorter battery life than Apple's examples suggest you should expect, contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked, if recommended by Apple (under warranty, if eligible):

A full charge should typically take no longer than around 2.5 hours.
It is not necessary to turn your watch off - and it cannot be turned off during charging.
Note also that charging stops and starts automatically as required. For example, if charging your watch overnight, charging will stop when the battery is fully charged and recommence if required later on, due to ongoing battery usage.
If charging is taking longer than expected, check the following when charging:
- All plastic wrap has been removed from both ends and both sides of the charging cable (check closely on the head of the charger).
- The back of your watch and the head of the charging cable are clean and dry (clean them with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth).
- The charging head is properly aligned with the back of the watch, with the concave / curved side touching it fully:
- Some watch docks, stands, cases or protectors might hinder this. If you are using any of these accessories, try instead charging the watch by connecting it directly to the charging cable, without using them.
- If possible, test by using another genuine Apple Magnetic Charging Cable (for example, by borrowing one from a friend).
- If you are charging your watch by plugging the cable into mains power:
- Check that the USB connector on the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable is pushed fully into the USB Power Adapter.
- Check that the USB Power Adapter is pushed fully into the power outlet.
- Try using different adapters from the following:
- The Apple USB Power Adapter that was supplied with the watch, or;
- An Apple 5W (iPhone) or 12W (iPad) USB Power Adapter, or;
- An Apple-certified (MFi) third-party 5W USB power adapter.
- Try using a different power outlet (one that is known to be working properly).
- If no other suitable power adapters are available, try instead charging by plugging the cable into a USB port.
- If charging via a USB port on a computer, ensure that you use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, the computer remains turned on and awake and the cable is plugged directly into the computer (not into, for example, an external keyboard).
If you identify an issue with a particular component (adapter, cable or watch) or if charging continues to take significantly longer than expected, contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your product(s) checked and, if recommended by Apple, serviced (whether under warranty or via chargeable, out-of-warranty service).
