My Ipod touch 6 gen. is less than a year old and for several months has not held a charge for more than 5-10 minutes will Apple repair this with no charge because it is equipment malfunction?

They might. We're just fellow users so we don't know for sure what Apple will or will not do. But I would make an appointment at your local apple store or authorized service provider and have them check it out....probably sooner rather than later so you don't accidentally miss that 1 year window
