Q: How do I fix 6 month old Sick apple mouse on wire only scrolls up now

How do I fix sick, 6 month old Apple mouse on a wire that was scrolling OK but now on internet pages just scrolls up the page using up todate El Capitain?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

As you know the bottom detector appears to be IR so don't think much to clean there. That leaves the top scroll ball. How do you clean that?

Thanks ! A very light isopropyl alcohol/water spray followed by 10 seconds rotating the top ball upside down & drying with handkerchief appears to have fixed the problem.
