Q: Dashboard not working since Security Update 2016-001

It seems that the Dashboard stopped working since I installed the Security Update 2016-001 on September 3rd.  I've tried running First Aid in Disk Utility and rebooting, and it still doesn't work.  Activity Monitor shows that Dashboard is not responding, and goes back to not responding even after I try force quitting it.  The only widgets I have installed are Stocks, Weather, and RadarInMotion.  I'm wondering if the security update broke something that the widgets need in order to get the data?  Has anyone else experienced this and possibly found a fix?

    Hello Frogking,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to be able to rely on your Mac utilities working as expected. I'd like to help get the Dashboard working again so you can have quick access to the apps and widgets you use most. We may need to do a little detective work to isolate where the problem is coming from.

The first thing I'd recommend doing is testing your Mac in a Test User and in Safe Mode. Doing so will help determine if the problem is system wide or isolated to just your user account, and if a startup item may be to blame. These articles will guide you through that process:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

If you find that this issue occurs in safe mode and in a test user then we know it is a system wide issue, and I would recommend re-installing OS X. This will not remove or effect any of your files or data and nothing will be removed. If you wish to make a backup as a precaution the articles below will guide you through that process, and the process of re-installing OS X.

If you run into any trouble or have any questions, the entire community is here to help.
    -Best Regards

Just wanted to say I have the same issue.  I have movies, clock, calculator, calendar, dictionary, radar & weather bug.  None of the widgets on the dashboard are working.  I tried removing them and placing them back in the dashboard with no luck.  I have rebooted twice.  I have two macbook pro notebooks, and neither of the dashboards are working.  Thanks for looking into this.
