Q: Damaged product

Hi,

Apple sold me a sealed MAC BOOK AIR 13 inches whose wifi receptor does not work properly, the wifi gets disconnected automatically. Apple service centre has confirmed the same and now apple is not replacing my product !!!  I mean why should i buy a new damaged product from apple???? Its a brand new product and the issue has been there since inception. I have talked to apple customer care and they are not ready to help me (Kavyasree and her senior Sreedhar). Is there anywhere where i should talk or is this kind of pathetic after sales service common with Apple.

Apple is looting its customer.

Regards

There's something you're not telling us. If it's defective and it's over warranty or covered by Apple Care, then it should be repaired or replaced by Apple or an AASP.

If it's brand new, it should be under warranty. What's the big deal? There are flaws in any manufacturing process. A small percentage of products come off the line with problems. That's what warranties are for.

Are they telling you they won't repair it? Why?

    I am telling,

    1. It is defective.

    2. The problem was from day one.

    3. It is under warranty.

But they are not replacing the product.

I do not pay a premium price for a laptop to cater to their flaws in manufacturing. Do they charge me less in case there is a defect in the product ? Why should I receive a damaged product by paying a price for new product ? It is  as good as purchasing anything second hand and getting it repaired.

    Regards

As @KiltedTim states, there is something very important that you are not telling us.

All we can do is guess, but you know the answer.

Perhaps you purchased this Mac from someone other than an Authorized Apple Retailer.

Very likely, the Apple Service Center told you exactly why they are not servicing your machine, but you left out that important detail above.

Dear All,I have purchased my MAC from a very much authorized Apple Reseller in India. They are ready to service my machine but I DO NOT WANT A SERVICE ON MY DEFECTIVE MAC, I WANT A REPLACEMENT, A NEW UNIT. Why should I accept a damaged MAC ? Warranty is to cover a situation when a machine has problem during normal working condition, not when there is a manufacturing defect.

You go to a shop and buy a new MAC and if it is defective (Manufacturing defect) then what do you do ? Take it directly to service centre or tell them to give a new unit which is in working condition.

If I have to take a NEW MAC from an authorized reseller and take it directly to Service centre for a manufacturing defect the what is the whole point of taking a new laptop, I could have very well bought a second hand laptop and taking it to service centre.

Why do you feel you deserve to be treated differently than all other Apple customers? Read your warranty document and you will see that Apple states they will REPAIR or replace (at their discretion). They are fulfilling their requirements by repairing the item.

You are NOT talking to Apple, so stop yelling about wanting a new Mac. The service center can not give you a new Mac. If you want a new Mac and you're still within the return period, then return the one you bought and buy a different one. Otherwise, deal with the repair process like the rest of us.

As I am not living in India, I cannot test this.

    Please contact Apple Customer Care.

I apologise for being rude since I have been doing to and fro on this since the last 3 days and I feel upset about the fact that I have been sold a product that does not work properly. Don't you all think that at the least a working product is what a customer deserves from a company like apple ?

You have told us this is exactly what Apple has offered you.

They simply have not offered you a new Mac, which is what you are asking for.  But they are indeed offering you a "working product."

When I buy a new Mac in the USA, these are the options available to me.

I can return a Mac within 14 days of purchase.

I test it thoroughly during this period and return it if needed.

A new Mac comes with 90 days of free tech support and 1 year limited warranty.

If I buy extended AppleCare, tech support and warranty are extended to first 3 years of ownership.

When my iMac’s superdrive stopped working within first month of ownership, Apple repaired it.

After 14 days of purchasing a Mac, warranty covers only repair not replacement.

But sometimes Apple may replace the product if the product is beyond repair during warranty period.

    Best.
