Q: Unable To Update To FCP Version 10.2.3

I have an Imac (Mid 2011) running OSx El Capitan Version 10.11.6. I have purchased a legitimate copy of Final Cut Pro X from the Apple Store in July 2011, but am now unable to update to the latest version of the software (10.2.3). The computer showed that it had downloaded the new version from the apple store update screen and showed that it had completed installing it with absolutely no errors, but when i tried double clicking the desktop icon & loading FCP X it still shows it's loading the 10.1.4 version (older version that i already had)??? It also shows the 10.1.4 version when i click on the contextual menu and click ABOUT FCPX??? I really want the new update. Can anyone please help me with this? Thank you.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Do you have any other copies of the application on another partition or drive? If not, move the application to the trash and try downloading it again.

Solved the issue just now. I did a Spotlight Search from the Desktop for Final Cut Pro X. It brought up all instances of FCPX. Apparently even though the computer said it had UPDATED the software instead of updating the existing version that was already on the computer (as i fully expected it would/should) it had downloaded the complete new version FCPX version 10.2.3 from the App Store to my Itunes Folder and left the original version untouched and in place. So i moved 10.2.3 to my applications folder, trashed the old version, created a new alias on the desktop and voila! and now it works like a charm! and shows version 10.2.3. Who would have thought? Right?

UUnlike the OS application updates are the complete application. There is no download and update of existing application. The problem is the App Store is prone to replace the wrong version of the existing application if there are multiple copies.
