Q: Is there a way to move iCloud photos to a permanent location on my macbook?

I originally had both my macbook and iPhone synced so my laptop had all the same pictures as my phone, but I'm trying to figure out if I can move the photos on my laptop to a permanent location so the pictures can't be deleted from my other devices. I've already tried making a new folder and that didn't work either.

You can download it to your computer's hard drive, an external hard drive, or use a third-party application such as Dropbox, Flickr, or Google Photos.

If the photos are currently in your Photos Library, duplicate this library. Then you will have a second version of  your Photos Library, that is not synced with iCloud. Call this duplicate "Photos Archive.photoslibrary" or similar. You can switch between libraries by double clicking the library you want to open.

Whenever you want to delete photos from the iCloud Library, export them first to the Desktop, then import them to your archive library and delete them from the iCloud Library.   See this Help page:  https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6d60b524
