Q: AirPort Time Capsule Help!!

I have an AirPort Time Capsule which has been backing up my computer for the last 2 years.  We have recently changed our router and now cannot back up.  This is obviously due to the wifi name and password different to what is stored in the Time Capsule.  I have looked at various help notes and manuals but it states to click on edit and I cannot see this.  There is no edit when I go into Applications - Utilities - AirPort, just my time capsule with

Open Airport Utility. Navigate to the wireless setup using the button menu on the upper part of the Airport Utility display window. There you can change what you need to change - name of the Wi-Fi network and the new password. Click on Update when completed.

Thanks for the reply but I can't see any wireless setup button.  When I go into the Airport Utility Display window this is what I see:

    Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 18.54.24.png

When I click on 'Other wi-fi devices', it just says nothing discovered.  Also the loading circle just keeps going round and round.

Any help is much appreciated!!  It's driving me round the bend!!

Kappy's reply seems to assume that you have reset the Time Capsule back to its factory default settings using a Hard Reset and that you will be setting it up again to work with your "new" network.

This is really the only way to get things working again when you change Internet providers, or even just change the modem on an existing network.

Please clarify if you have performed a Hard Reset on the Time Capsule.

Would also really help if you could provide the make and model number of the device that you likely call your "modem".

As it stands now, our crystal ball is not showing us much about your network at all, so we have to ask for your help.

Once the Time Capsule is set up and working......then......you will need to reset Time Machine on your Mac to get backups working again. But, first things first.  Let's get the Time Capsule set up and working as a first task.

Thanks so much for this Bob.

I haven't done a Hard Reset on the time capsule.

With regards to the make and model of the device, do you mean my AirPort Time Capsule or my router?

    Thanks

    Donna

I think Bob is referring to neither of them, he is referring to the modem you use to access the internet (which may also act as router)

You might call it your "modem", or your "modem/router", or your "gateway", or your "router".

But, it is the device to which the Time Capsule will connect in order to obtain an Internet connection.

Just had a look at the router but it just says 'Sky Connect', there doesn't seem to be a model number on it.

If you look on the back of the Sky Connect device.......how many Ethernet ports do you see?

Does the device look something like this on the back?  With multiple Ethernet ports?

Or, does it look like this?  With only one Ethernet port?

Thanks.  There should be an Ethernet cable that connects from one of the Ethernet ports on your modem/router.....they will be marked something like this <--> ........to the WAN "O" port on the back of the Time Capsule.

    Is that correct?

If yes, does  your Time Capsule look like a "tower" or does it look like a "flat or square" pizza box?

Do you know how to perform a Hard Reset on the Time Capsule?

Yes, that's correct, my Time Capsule is like a tower.

No, I don't know how to perform a Hard Reset.

Make sure that the Time Capsule is powered on.  The indicator light might be green, or it might be slowly blinking amber.

Hold in the reset button  (located just to the right of the power cord socket) with a ball point pen for 7 to 8 seconds, then release the reset button. Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status.

Now the Time Capsule is back to its original settings so that you can set it up again to work with the new router. Kappy assumed that you had already done all of this.

Follow the instructions in the Setup Guide to set up the Time Capsule again, just like you did before. If you don't have the Setup Guide handy, it is linked just below.
